STRENGTHENING TIES WITH KALININGRAD REGION

On 15 February, in Kaliningrad, Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the Lithuanian side of the Council for Long-term Co-operation between Regions of the Republic of Lithuania and the Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation Laimonas Talat-Kelpša met with vice-Governor of the Kaliningrad Region, Chairman of the Russian side of the aforementioned Council, Yury Shalimov.

During the meeting issues of cooperation between the Kaliningrad Region and Lithuania, prospects of business development and possibilities for improving the infrastructure of Lithuanian and Russian border control posts were discussed. Moreover, participants of the meeting exchanged opinions on preparations for the Days of the Kaliningrad Region, which are to be organized by the end of February in Vilnius.

It was affirmed that Russia understood the consequences of the enactment of the visa facilitation agreement between the European Union and the Russian Federation. The consequences concern residents of the Kaliningrad Region travelling to the Republic of Lithuania.
