Strengthening strategic communication was discussed with Under Secretary of State Richard Stengel
In a meeting on 18 May, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas and the United States Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Richard Stengel, who is on a visit to Vilnius, discussed dynamic and close ties between Lithuania and the United States, and cooperation in strategic communication.
“The U.S. remains an active ally of Lithuania in addressing military, energy, economic and information security issues,” stressed Germanas.
Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister underlined the importance of strengthening the transatlantic community's strategic communication in the fight against propaganda disseminated by Russia and other countries.
The consultations on strategic communication were held in the MFA with the officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the President, the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The officials agreed that the understanding of strategic communication by the transatlantic community should be taken to a whole new level through concrete and active actions, and that there was a need for a more active role of the U.S. public diplomacy and media in our region and throughout Europe.
Richard Stengel leads the U.S. public diplomacy outreach and oversees the bureaus of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Public Affairs, International Information Programs, and the Centre for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications. Prior to assuming this position, Stengel was the Managing Editor of TIME.
