STRENGTHENING LITHUANIA-SPAIN COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF ENERGY IS DISCUSSED IN VILNIUS

At the meeting with Spanish Secretary of State for European Affairs Diego López Garrido on 7 June in Vilnius, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Egidijus Meilūnas presented Lithuania’s actions to solve the challenge of energy isolation and invited Spanish companies to participate in the ongoing energy projects in the country.

According to D.López Garrido, the challenge of energy isolation is also important to Spain, which is the world’s major consumer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and has extensive experience in the field of renewable energy. Therefore, the diplomat believes that Lithuania and Spain could intensify their cooperation on these issues.

Vice-Minister E.Meilūnas stressed that Lithuania was concerned about the development of nuclear projects in its neighbourhood and acquainted D.López Garrido with the activities of the Energy Security Centre, which was opened on 1 January in Vilnius.

At the meeting, Lithuanian and Spanish diplomats also discussed bilateral cooperation, issues on the EU agenda.
