STRENGTHENING COOPERATION WITH INDIA

On 26 October third bilateral consultations of Lithuanian Ministry of  Foreign Affairs and Indian Ministry for External Relations were held in New Delhi, India.

Director of Americas, Africa, Asia and Pacific Department of Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Jonas Paslauskas met with the Head of Central Europe Department of Indian Ministry for External Relations V.Ashok and discussed bilateral Lithuanian-Indian relations – agreements that are under preparation, perspectives of enhancement of diplomatic representation and further development of relations.

The parties exchanged opinions on regional policy issues of the Eastern Europe and South Asia and important issues of fight against international terrorism, United Nations Security Council reform, problems of disarmament and non-proliferation.

In India Lithuanian delegation also visited the most important business organizations of India – Federation of Indian Export Organizations, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce, Indian World Affairs Council and presented information about Lithuania’s economic development, possibilities of business relations with Lithuania.

Lithuania and India have held regular consultations since 2004, alternately in Vilnius and in Delhi.

Lithuania has no diplomatic representation in India. In 2004 India officially informed about its decision to establish Embassy for the Baltic States in Vilnius.
