STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND POLAND MUST CONTINUE

On 14 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Petras Vaitiekūnas discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Poland with the speaker of the parliament of Poland Bronisław Komorowski who made his first official visit to Lithuania. During the meeting it was emphasized that the strategic partnership between Lithuania and Poland must continue and it has to be based on the practical cooperation of the countries, both of them should coordinate together their positions on the most important issues of the European Union, energy security and the Eastern policy. The countries have to continue the infrastructure projects that had already been launched.

Minister P.Vaitiekūnas suggested that Lithuania and Poland commemorated together this year the 20th anniversary of the creation of “Sąjūdis” and widely presented the importance of movements „Sąjūdis“ and „Solidarity“ in the struggles for independence in the Eastern Europe.

On 13 January the speaker of the Polish parliament took part in the events of the Freedom Defenders’ Day and in a grand meeting in the Seimas.

In Vilnius B.Komorowski also met with Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas. During his first official visit in Lithuania the speaker of the Polish parliament is also meeting the Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Viktoras Muntianas and the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus.
