STRATEGIC PARTNERS LITHUANIA AND POLAND SEEK TO TRANSFER THEIR EXPERIENCE TO THE NEW EU NEIGHBOURS

On 15 November Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs  Antanas Valionis met with the Speaker of the Senate of Poland Bogdan Borusewicz in Warsaw.

Returning from his visit to Ukraine Lithuanian Foreign Minister shared with the Speaker of Polish Senate his impressions of the meetings with the President of Ukraine and other officials of the country. The Speaker of Polish Senate informed that he was planning to go to Ukraine on his first foreign visit.

Discussing relations with neighbour countries, Lithuania’ and Poland’s opportunities to develop more actively EU neighbourhood policy, Minister Valionis and Speaker Borusewicz recalled their countries’ democratic reforms experience, cooperation between Lithuanian Sajudis and Polish Solidarnosc, that helped to strive for common goals and grew up to strategic partnership of two independent neighbour countries. Strategic partners seek to transfer their experience of neighbourhood relations development to the new neighbours of the EU.

The parties talked over the possibilities of further evolvement of close Lithuanian-Polish cooperation, exchanged opinions on ensuring countries’ safety in energy sphere in the framework of the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy.
