STATEMENT OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF LITHUANIA
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania declares that the decision adopted by the State Duma of Russian Federation on 29 October to ratify the so-called Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance Treaties with Georgia‘s South Ossetia and Abkhazia contradicts the provisions of the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties and roughly violates the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Rough and persistent infringements of international law with regard to sovereign neighbour Georgia cause serious preoccupation concerning the Russian Federation’s intentions to respect the international obligations in relations with other partners, including the European Union.
