STATEMENT OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF LITHUANIA

Lithuania supports the military actions of the United States and the international coalition against terrorist groups and their supporters in Afghanistan. The United States and the international coalition are exercising their right to self-defense as defined under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. Terrorists and their supporters must not go unpunished.
Lithuania condemns terrorism as a serious threat to peace and security and will contribute all means to the efforts of the United States, NATO and the international community in the fight against terrorism.
Lithuania is preparing a "National Programme for Combating Terrorism", which envisages comprehensive measures in fighting terrorism, in accordance with Lithuanian domestic and international obligations.
