STATEMENT OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF LITHUANIA REGARDING NORTH KOREAN NUCLEAR TEST

Lithuania condemns the North Korean nuclear test, announced on February 12. This is the third nuclear explosion in the country. As well as the launch of ballistic missile in December 2012, this test poses a grave threat to the international nuclear non-proliferation regime. It is a serious and open violation of North Korea’s international obligations, in particular of the resolutions 1718, 1874, and 2087 of the United Nations Security Council.

The North Korean highly provocative acts pose a threat to peace, security and stability in the Korean peninsula and wider region.

Lithuania will support measures by the international community taken in order to make the North Korea to implement UN Security Council resolutions and abandon its nuclear program.
