Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania on the situation in eastern Ukraine
We express strong support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We condemn actions of the separatists in the Donetsk region and other eastern regions of Ukraine – in Luhansk and Kharkiv. By means of such actions supported by the external forces and provocations it is sought to destabilise the situation in that region and the whole of Ukraine. We support the efforts of the Government of Ukraine to resolve the complicated and unpredictable situation in a peaceful way.
We see no efforts of Russia to deescalate the situation, to seek to achieve a diplomatic dialogue – sooner on the contrary. Provokers carrying Russian state flags attack the buildings of the state institutions in Eastern Ukraine and obviously seek to repeat the “Crimea scenario”.
We urge the meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers to be held on 14 April to make the EU response, which could put a stop to the economic and military pressure exerted on Ukraine, stricter.
