STATEMENT OF LITHUANIA’S MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS REGARDING THE SITUATION IN GEORGIA AND NEARBY

“Lithuania and its partners in the European Union are attentively following the situation in Georgia. We support Georgia’s independence, democracy, territorial integrity and its goals to continue stepping on the Euro-Atlantic integration path. We believe that the Georgian government and its opposition are politically mature to solve all the issues of the future of country through dialogue. We welcome the positive role of EU’s Special Representative Peter Semneby in developing this dialogue.

At this politically sensitive time, we urge Russia to refrain from carrying out military trainings close to Georgia’s territorial waters, since such actions  increase tension and do not contribute to stability and confidence building in the region,” said Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas
