STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF LITHUANIA

On February 27 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Antanas Valionis said that three employees of the Russian Federation Embassy in Lithuania were recently asked to leave the country for the activities not compatible with their diplomatic status.
The Minister regrets that such actions had to be taken and hopes to avoid further escalation of events. Antanas Valionis also stated his assurance that Lithuanian-Russian relations will remain friendly and constructive.
However, according to the Minister, it is inadmissible that representatives of foreign states would influence in illegal ways the process of privatisation in Lithuania or seek to obtain classified information related to the impeachment process.
