STATEMENT BY LITHUANIA’S MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs received information from German authorities through the Embassy of Lithuania in Berlin that the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged German vessel was seized off the shores of Nigeria оn 2 July.

Lithuanian citizen Aleksejus Sysojus was on board the ship among other seamen.

The sailor’s next of kin have been informed.

Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Foreign Ministry maintains regular contact and works closely with institutions of partner countries.
