STATEMENT BY LITHUANIAN MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

On 14 September, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania (MFA) was informed on the incident at the Kena railway border checkpoint, where a group of citizens of the Russian Federation chained themselves and refused to get off a transit train, following the route Moscow-Kaliningrad. Seventeen members of the Russian National-Bolshevik party claimed their behaviour to be an action of protest against the regime of visas for the Russian citizens crossing the territory of Lithuania on transit. The Lithuanian MFA underscores that such an incident does not reflect the spirit of good neighbourly relationship between the Republic of Lithuania and the Russian Federation. The order of transit through the territory of Lithuania was established by mutual agreement of the European Union (EU), Lithuania and Russia. Both Lithuania and Russia are satisfied with the course of its implementation. The Lithuanian MFA agrees with the statement of the Russian MFA, according to which the unlawful act of National-Bolsheviks is a “political hooliganism” that aims to popularise the party before the elections to the Russian State Duma. The Lithuanian MFA awaits the results of investigation by the State Border Guard Service and suggests including the persons who caused the incidence into the list of unwanted persons.
