STATE SECRETARY OF THE MINISTRY AND MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE OF THE ROMANIAN PARLIAMENT DISCUSSED IMPORTANT EU ISSUES

On 2 July, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deividas Matulionis and members of the visiting delegation of the European Affairs Committee of the Romanian Parliament discussed important issues of the European Union and the situation in the EU after the Lisbon Treaty Referendum in Ireland.

While discussing the Treaty of Lisbon, D. Matulionis indicated that currently it was important to guarantee the succession of the process of ratification of the Treaty in the remaining countries.

‘The development of the situation should not impede further EU enlargement,’ indicated D. Matulionis stressing that the EU had to give some time to the government of Ireland to offer ways to amend the situation.

Head of Romania’s delegation Traian Dobre indicated that the Treaty of Lisbon was essential for the effectiveness of the EU. Head of delegation stated that governments of the EU countries had to inform the society about the benefits of the Treaty to member states and whole of the EU as much as possible.

Participants in the meeting also agreed that the EU had to find ways to step forward and to seek the implementation of joint EU goals actively.

During the meeting, bilateral issues of Lithuania and Romania, possibilities of resolution of frozen conflicts and perspective of the European integration of Moldova were also discussed.
