Solidarity and support to Lithuania expressed during OSCE Permanent Council meeting in the context of the hybrid attack by A. Lukashenko regime

On August 12, OSCE Permanent Council discussed the situation in Belarus one year after the fraudulent Presidential elections  of August 8, 2020, and in the context of unprecedented repressions that followed.

Delegations of OSCE participating States that took the floor were united in their condemnation of the repressions by Aliaksandr Lukashenko’s regime against the Belarusian people, systemic and further increasing violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms,  crackdown against Belarusian civil society, independent media and citizens who demanded change. Participating delegations demanded A. Lukashenko’s regime immediately ceases all repressions, releases all political prisoners, starts inclusive national dialogue, conducts new, free and fair Presidential elections, monitored by OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), and implements all remaining recommendations of the report prepared by Professor Wolfgang Benedek under OSCE Moscow Mechanism.

Many delegations strongly condemned the attempts by A. Lukashenko’s regime to instrumentalize irregular migrants in conducting hybrid attack against the EU and Lithuania. Delegations stated that the attack is an act of revenge for Lithuania’s principled stance with regard to the negative developments in Belarus, and for Lithuanian support to Belarusians, fighting for the democratic future of their country.

Lithuania is grateful for the support and solidarity of our allies and partners.
