Russia’s response to the note has been received

The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 17 April, received a response to its note of 12 April over safety and security of the staff of the Lithuanian diplomatic representation and their family members in Moscow from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The Lithuanian party is informed that, having received the note over threats to the staff of the Lithuanian diplomatic representation and their family members, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia has informed Russian competent services about it in order for them to take all necessity measures.

A representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Lithuania was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was handed the note concerning the threats and was repeatedly asked to carry out an investigation into the incident, to inform about the results and ensure the safety and security of the staff of the diplomatic representation and their family members as stipulated in Article 29 of the 1961Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

On 31 March the Lithuanian Embassy in Moscow received the letter which contained threats to the Embassy staff and their family members in relation to the ruling by the Vilnius Regional Court in the criminal case regarding the events of 13 January in case they did not leave Moscow within a month. The letter was signed by “Russian Veterans”, an organisation that unites veterans of Russian special services.
