Russian representative is handed a protest note over the shelling of Ukraine

On 30 January, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Lithuania and handed a diplomatic note expressing strong protest regarding the ongoing shelling of Ukraine.

The document highlighted recent attacks by the Russian military forces against civilian targets in various areas of Ukraine: residential homes in Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Odesa,  Zaporizhzhia, a passenger train in the Kharkiv region, cultural heritage sites of global significance in Kyiv and Odessa.

Lithuania strongly condemns the systematic attacks on civilians, energy infrastructure, and other civilian objects and stresses that these gross violations of international humanitarian law  constitute a war crime. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its demand that Russia immediately cease its aggression against Ukraine, withdraw its occupying forces from the entire territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, and compensate all the damage suffered by Ukraine as a result of the Russian aggression.
