Russian representative handed a protest note over the continued shelling of Ukraine

On 24 February, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned a representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Lithuania and handed a diplomatic note expressing protest over Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine since 2014.

The document states that as the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine approached, on the night from 21 to 22 February, Russia launched new cold-blooded missile and drone attacks deliberately targeting the civilian population of Ukraine, residential areas, and civilian infrastructure, thus further adding to the list of war crimes committed in Ukraine by Russian military forces and their leading politicians.

The note recalls that accountability for war crimes and other international crimes is not subject to a statute of limitations. Lithuania demands an immediate end to the aggression against Ukraine, the withdrawal of all the occupying forces from the entire internationally recognised territory of Ukraine, and compensation for all damage caused to Ukraine by the Russian aggression.
