RESIDENTS OF LITHUANIA ARE INVITED TO DONATE CLOTHES FOR THE PEOPLE OF GEORGIA

Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is looking for ways to assist Georgia, where the humanitarian situation continues to worsen. Residents of Lithuania and local companies that are producing and trading in clothing are kindly invited to give clothes to charity for the suffering people of Georgia. The assistance campaign is coordinated by the Democracy and Development Assistance Fund. From 14 August clothes are collected in the premises of the Eastern Europe Studies Centre on D. Poškos Street 59, in Vilnius, 9.00 h. through 20:00 h. Collectors of charity will also work at the Eastern Europe Studies Centre on the Assumption Day and this weekend. It is planned to send the collected charity to Georgia next week.

Donated clothes have to be clean, not worn out, or new. Clothes for males, females and children have to be packed separately.

According to the data of the United Nations, since the beginning of the war actions in South Ossetia, nearly 100,000 people have been uprooted in Georgia. The victims of conflict lack basic means of subsistence.

According to the data of Georgian Emergency Management department, during several days of the conflict 150 people perished and 2,000 were injured. The final data is not yet known.

According to Georgian officials, currently the country mostly needs food, clothes, bedrolls, camp-beds and bedding.

As most of the refugees are women, children and infants, Lithuania intends to donate charity to those most vulnerable groups of residents.
