Representatives of Lithuanian Jewish organizations in Israel invited to the World Lithuanian Economic Forum
Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantvydas Bekešius, who is on a working visit to Israel, on 12 May in Tel Aviv met with representatives of organizations of the Lithuanian Jewish diaspora - Beit Vilna, Igud jocei Lita and Izraelita - and Honorary Consuls of Lithuania in Israel.
Bekešius has informed the organisations and Honorary Consuls about the concept and the programme of the World Lithuanian Economic Forum, which will take place on 19-21 October in Israel, and has invited them to join the event.
Lithuanian initiatives to protect and safeguard Jewish cultural heritage in Lithuania, Holocaust educational projects aimed at perpetuating its memory were presented to the audience and on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the end of the World War II, a letter of Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius was handed in to the survivors who live in Israel.
Bekešius welcomed closer cooperation between the local organizations and called on Litvaks to maintain contacts with the Jewish Community in Lithuania, to foster ties with Lithuania, to promote our country as a great place to do business and a tourism destination. The engagement in joint projects of the young people in Lithuania and Israel was noted as a priority.
Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister has invited the representatives of the Jewish organizations to visit Lithuania in September for the Jewish Culture Days in Žagarė, and attend a conference to mark 90th anniversary of the establishment of the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research.
