RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES AND NUCLEAR ENERGY CAN GUARANTEE LITHUANIA’S ENERGY SECURITY, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER SAYS

On May 9 at the international conference “Sustainable Development of Renewable Energy Resources in Lithuania in the Context of the European Union” in Vilnius, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius emphasized the importance of renewable energy resources for ensuring energy security in Lithuania. Ignatavičius emphasized the current dependence of the country on energy imports from Russia and noted that renewable energy sources together with nuclear energy could ensure Lithuania’s energy independence.

The two-day conference is organised by the Lithuanian German Forum Association, International Birutė Galdikas ecology charity and support foundation and German non-governmental organisation The Hanseatic Parliament in cooperation with Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the conference, experts, entrepreneurs, lawyers and economists from Lithuania and Germany are discussing renewable energy development potential in Lithuania and in the world, respective legal regulation in Lithuania and the EU, investment opportunities and prospects for the development of small business in the sector of renewable energy.

Participants of the event are sharing experience, German and Lithuanian examples presenting the most effective ways to produce energy from solar, wind, biomass, biogas and geothermal sources.

The event is attended by more than 200 participants from Lithuania and Germany: politicians and entrepreneurs, representatives from municipalities, heat suppliers, scientists, lawyers, renewable energy consumers.
