RELATIONS BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND GEORGIA ARE DISCUSSED IN TBILISI
On 13 September, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis, who is paying a working visit to Georgia, met with Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze and discussed with him bilateral relations. A.Ažubalis assured the Georgian Foreign Minister that Lithuania would further support Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration aspirations.
During the conversation, the Ministers stressed that relations between Lithuania and Georgia were actively and successfully developing in all areas. An intense agenda of mutual visits also reflects the state of bilateral relations.This year, President of Lithuania and Lithuanian Foreign Minister paid working visits to Georgia as Lithuania holds the Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
Interparliamentary relations between Georgia and Lithuania successfully developed, as well as an active cooperation between the institutions of the countries.
During recent years, volumes of bilateral trade have steadily increased. Last year, Lithuania’s exports to Georgia doubled and amounted to 62.8 million Litas. Last year, Lithuania’s import from Georgia increased by one fifth and amounted to 23.4 million Litas. These indicators are the highest ones over the period of 20 years.
The Ministers also discussed the cooperation between Lithuania and Georgia within international organizations and the Geneva process that aimed to regulate the crisis after the war of 2008. A.Ažubalis stressed the importance of democratic reforms for Georgia’s further development and for the implementation of the country’s foreign policy goals.
At the meeting, the Ministers gave considerable attention to the preparation for the Eastern Partnership Summit, due to be held on 29-30 September in Warsaw. The Ministers also discussed Georgia’s ongoing negotiations on an Association Agreement with the EU.
