Regarding Russia's decision to expel the chargé d’affaires ad interim of Lithuania

On 5 October, a representative of Lithuania's Embassy in Moscow was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and received a diplomatic note on the expulsion of the chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Lithuanian Embassy Virginija Umbrasienė from Russia in response to Lithuania’s decision of 3 October to expel the chargé d'affaires ad interim of Russia Sergey Ryabokon from Lithuania.

Russia's Foreign Ministry also informed about the decision to freeze events in the historic home of Jurgis Baltruušaitis.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania expresses a strong protest against the decision of Russia that further escalates the situation and considers it unjustified. The Foreign Ministry also notes that the decision to expel Russia's chargé d'affaires ad interim Sergey Ryabokon from Lithuania was taken in view of his statements and actions, which were incompatible with his diplomatic status, regarded as an interference in the host state's internal affairs, and, therefore, violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
