Public support for Lithuanian membership in NATO has been rapidly growing as demonstrated by the results of the opinion poll
conducted on November 26-December 2 and December 10-16, 2000, by the “SIC Rinkos Tyrimai” company.
According to the poll, 48.9 percent of the population support the membership in NATO. In August, 2000 the rate of support
stood at 42.2 percent while in January, 2000 38.6 percent of the population were in favour of the membership in NATO.
During the period from August to December 2000, the number of opponents decreased from 25.7 percent to 22.3 percent, the
number of undecided fell down from 32 percent to 28.8 percent.
1028 respondents from all Lithuania took part in the poll. The age of the respondents ranges from 15 to 74 years.
