Protests lodged with Russia over cyberattacks
On 14 July, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned a representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to protest over the actions of Russian intelligence officers and other entities contributing to Russia’s destabilising cyber activities against the European Union, its member states and partners.
The Russian representative was informed of the decision adopted on 13 July to impose EU sanctions on nine individuals and four organisations involved in malicious cyber activities carried out by the Russian Federal Security Service.
During the meeting, the Russian representative was also told that Lithuania, together with its partners, will continue its efforts to identify and bring to justice entities engaged in or contributing to malicious cyber activities in support of Russia's strategic interests.
Lithuania's protest to Russia was issued in coordination with the European External Action Service and EU member states.
