‘Protection of EU’s external borders is not an option, but responsibility’: Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister
On 13 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis took part in the EU’s General Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg, which finalised preparations for the European Council meeting to be held on 15 and 16 October.
Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister said that the protection of the EU’s external borders was not an option, but responsibility. He also stressed that illegal migration could not be tolerated, so an effective return policy was required.
Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister also noted the need to support third countries - Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan - hosting the vast majority of the refugee flow out of Syria. “We should strengthen our cooperation and work together with third countries to resolve the migration crisis and to effectively implement readmission agreements,” said Karoblis.
