PROSPECTS OF LITHUANIAN-JAPANESE ECONOMIC COOPERATION WERE DISCUSSED IN VILNIUS

On 5 May Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Taro Aso and discussed bilateral Lithuanian-Japanese relations, situation in the European Union, neighbour states and in the countries of Asia, cooperation in cultural and economic spheres.

„Today Lithuania and Japan share many common values and this contributes to even closer cooperation between the states,” Foreign Minister Aso said.

Minister Valionis acquainted his Japanese counterpart with the results of Vilnius Conference. Lithuanian Foreign Minister welcomed interest in cooperation and assistance in creation of civic society in the EU neighbour states, expressed during the EU-Japan Summit on 24 April in Tokyo.  

Japanese Foreign Minister Aso, who had arrived to Vilnius after consultations in NATO Headquarters in Brussels, told that Japan is interested and looks for the ways to cooperate more closely with NATO. Currently Japan as a member of the G8 group takes part in reconstruction of Afghanistan and allocates funds to civil projects.

The Ministers also discussed Lithuanian-Japanese cooperation in international organizations.

The Head of Lithuanian Diplomacy took a positive view of the political and cultural cooperation between the countries and invited to strengthen economic cooperation.
