PROSPECTS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF RAIL BALTICA PROJECT WERE DISCUSSED IN TALLINN
On 26 September in Tallinn Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas with Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet and the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Edgar Savisaar discussed important issues of bilateral relations, considered the prospects of implementation of the Rail Baltica project.
Estonia was offered to join the energy bridge projects with Poland and Sweden on the same conditions as Lithuania participates in Estonia’s “Estlink” project. Such issues as Lithuania’s and Estonia’s preparations for introduction of the Euro and accession to the Schengen area were addressed, objectives of the NATO Summit in Riga were discussed.
These issues were also considered during the meetings with the Chairman of the European Union Affairs Committee of Estonian Parliament Kristiina Ojuland and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Enn Eesmaa, the Chief Executive Officer of “Eesti Energia” Sandor Liive.
Minister Vaitiekūnas proposed to continue the discussions at the meetings of the Baltic Council of Ministers in December 2006 in Vilnius.
