PROMINENT U.S. POLITICIAN AND DIPLOMAT WAS AWARDED A MEDAL IN COMMEMORATION OF LITHUANIA’S ACCESSION TO THE EU AND NATO

On 10 February, during the ceremony in Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis awarded prominent U.S. politician and diplomat staying in Vilnius Richard Holbrooke a medal in commemoration of Lithuania’s accession to the EU and NATO. During the discussion after the ceremony A. Valionis and R. Holbrooke talked over reforms in South Caucasian states, Ukraine, situation in Byelorussia and other East European countries. R. Holbrooke made a presentation at the international conference "The Baltic Region and the South Caucasus: Strategies for Cooperation and Patterns of Reform", which took place in Vilnius. The guest also met with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and the Chairman of Seimas Arturas Paulauskas. R. Holbrooke is a former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. He was one of the authors of the Dayton Peace Accords that put an end to war in Bosnia in 1995. Currently he is a vice-president of investment company “Perseus”.
