PRESIDENT OF MOLDOVA CONFERS A MEDAL OF HONOUR ON THE OUTGOING LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR TO MOLDOVA FOR STRENGTHENING BILATERAL RELATIONS

On 16 June, acting Moldova’s President Vladimir Voronin received Lithuanian Ambassador Vytautas Žalys, who is at the end of his diplomatic tenure in this country. President V.Voronin conferred a Medal of Honour (Ordinul de Onoare) on Ambassador V.Žalys for his special input in developing amiable relations between Lithuania and Moldova.

During the meeting, President V.Voronin emphasized that today Lithuania and Moldova enjoyed good and friendly relations, and highlighted a contribution made by Ambassador V.Žalys to the strengthening of bilateral relations.

While conferring the award, V.Voronin stressed that during the recent three years Lithuania and Moldova successfully implemented many bilateral projects and opened a Centre of European Integration Studies in Kishinev. Moldova’s President thanked Lithuania for its firm support to Moldova on the path to European integration.

Ambassador expressed belief that Lithuania would remain a firm supporter of Moldova’s goals of European integration and would be ready to further share its experience in implementing democratic reforms that were necessary in order to build a secure and prosperous Moldova in a united and free Europe.

V.Žalys is the first Lithuanian Ambassador, residing in Moldova. Ambassador V.Žalys ends his tenure in Moldova on 10 July.
