On 18 October Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Oskaras Jusys took part in the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) meeting in Luxembourg.

The participants of the GAERC meeting discussed the preparations for the World  Trade Organization's (WTO) Ministers’ Negotiations in Hong Kong.

Oskaras Jusys urged the European Commission to strive to negotiate not only the agriculture issues but also the market access for non-agricultural products and services properly safeguarding the EU’s interests.

Though Lithuania and other EU countries gave positive evaluation of Commission’s activities in the negotiations, but they also required more efforts to achieve the balanced outcome of the negotiations.

“The results should be achieved not only in agriculture but also in other areas: non-agricultural products, services, trade regulations. It is important to safeguard the EU’s interests and reach greater openness between the Commission and the member-states,” Oskaras  Jusys said.
