PREPARATION OF THE EU TO TACKLE THE CONSEQUENCES OF ECONOMIC RECESSION WERE DISCUSSED IN COPENHAGEN
On 4 March, at an informal meeting of the European Affairs Ministers of Nordic and Baltic countries, Undersecretary of Lithuania's Foreign Ministry Žygimantas Pavilionis discussed the preparation of European Union countries to tackle consequences of the global financial and economic recession. Representatives of Sweden presented the challenges for the Swedish EU Presidency in the second half of 2009. The participants of the meeting also exchanged their views on the EU Baltic Sea Strategy which is currently being drafted.
At a separate meeting, representatives from Nordic and Baltic countries (Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) and a member of the EU's reflection group, Pro-rector of the University of Copenhagen Lykke Friis discussed the study and recommendations on the strategic development of the EU, that the above mentioned group was working on.
