POSSIBILITY TO USE THE RENEWABLE ENERGY PROVIDES THE STATES WITH REAL AND LONG-TERM ENERGY SECURITY
On 10 June State Secretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deividas Matulionis took part in the “Renewable Energy Conference: Development and Sustainability” where he underlined that possibility to use the renewable energy provides the states with real and long-term energy security.
According to D. Matulionis, development and prospects of the renewable energy are not only environmental or energy provision issues. This is more complex issue covering all spheres of our life.
“The greatest challenge we will face – how to proceed to more secure and cleaner energy system, which would not undermine economic and social development and reduce the threat of climate change. The response is the renewable energy sources. Their development maintains ecological balance and provides secure, affordable and endless energy and moreover poses no threat to us and our environment,” D. Matulionis said.
State Secretary of the Ministry also noted that the price of the renewable energy depends on the technology costs, therefore in length of time mass production of this energy and technological innovations should stabilize and even reduce the energy price.
D. Matulionis also stated that the essential step in eliminating energy isolation of the Baltic States and integrating them into the European energy market is laying of electricity cable SWEDLIT from Lithuania to Sweden.
This international conference aims at stimulating the development of renewable energy sector in Lithuania and intensifying Lithuanian-Swedish cooperation in this area. It is expected that this would accelerate the information exchange between the states about policy, scientific research and new technology in development of wind, water, biomass and bioetanol energy.
The conference is attended by Lithuanian and Swedish politicians, representatives of ministries and other state institutions, business, associations, NGOs and science community, foreign diplomats accredited to Lithuania.
