POSSIBILITIES OF COOPERATION IN OIL EXTRACTION AND PROCESSING WERE DISCUSSED IN KAZAKHSTAN
On 10 January during a visit to Kazakhstan Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with Kazakh Minister of Foreign Affairs Kassymzhomart Tokaev, Kazakh Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Vladimir Shkolnik and the President of Kazakh oil company „KazMunayGaz“ Uzakbay Karabalin and discussed possibilities of increased countries’ cooperation.
The participants of the meetings discussed the importance of diversification of energy resources, transit of these resources, possibilities of cooperation in oil extraction and processing spheres. The representatives of Kazakhstan reconfirmed their interest in purchasing Lithuanian oil processing plant „Mažeikių nafta“.
In the meeting with Kazakh Minister of Foreign Affairs Minister Valionis also discussed other topical issues of Lithuanian-Kazakh bilateral relations, cooperation in the sphere of culture and youth exchange.
Minister Tokaev asked Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs to support Kazakhstan’s wish to chair the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2009.
On 11 January Lithuanian Foreign Minister takes part in the inauguration ceremony of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
