POSSIBILITIES OF CLOSER LITHUANIA’S COOPERATION WITH URUGUAY AND ARGENTINA WERE DISCUSSED IN LIMA
On 15 May Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oskaras Jusys participated in preparatory meeting of foreign ministers of the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean states (EU-LAC), which took place in the capital of Peru Lima on the eve of the European Union-Latin America-Caribbean Summit.
The participants of the meeting discussed the issues of migration, fight against drugs and drug trafficking, Latin America’s regional integration and intercultural dialogue, endorsed the text of the Lima Declaration which should be adopted by EU-LAC Heads of State and Government on 16 May.
During the bilateral meetings Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry O. Jusys discussed with his counterparts from Uruguay and Argentina important issues of bilateral cooperation.
With Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry of Uruguay Pedro Vaz Ramela Lithuanian Community in Uruguay, promotion of economic and cultural relations between Lithuania and Uruguay were talked over.
At the meeting with Undersecretary of Argentine Foreign Ministry Agustin Kolombo Sierra possibilities of signing of new treaties, stimulation of economic cooperation and cultural exchange, especially in preparation for the Commemoration of the Millennium of Lithuania’s name and Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009 events as well as for the commemoration of 200th anniversary of revolution in Argentina in 2010.
On 16 May at the Fifth EU-LAC Summit Lithuania is represented by Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas.
