Possibilities for Lithuanian-Omani cooperation discussed in Vilnius

On 2-4 May, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi visited Vilnius. He was accompanied by a delegation of Omani entrepreneurs.

In the meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and during the annual political consultations, officials discussed conflicts in the Middle East, migration and agreed to speed up the signing of agreements on economic cooperation, investment promotion and protection, tax, double taxation avoidance, preventing tax evasion as well as to resume negotiations for an air services agreement. The officials also discussed organising the Omani Days. During this event, Lithuania’s civil society would be more broadly acquainted with the Sultanate of Oman.

The participants of the delegation were briefed about Lithuania’s achievements in the field of information technology and investment opportunities. Lithuania’s achievements in the laser sector were demonstrated at the laser factory Ekspla.

In the meeting with Lithuania’s Minister of Health Juras Požėla, the officials exchanged concrete ideas and agreed to sign a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Health in the near future.

The delegation of Omani entrepreneurs took interest in the possibility of development of the Lithuanian-Omani cooperation in the fields of information technology and healthcare. Joint projects on water treatment, recycling and management were also discussed. Lithuanian businessmen shared their experience in providing engineering services and discussed potential areas of cooperation.

Lithuania and Oman established diplomatic relations on 22 September 1992.
