POLITICAL DIRECTOR OF LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY PARTICIPATES IN THE CONSULTATIONS OF NORDIC, BALTIC COUNTRIES AND THE U.S.A.
On 27-29 October in Washington D.C., Political Director of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vytautas Leškevičius is taking part in the foreign policy consultations on the Enhanced Partnership in Northern Europe (e-PINE) and at meetings with the U.S. administration.
During bilateral and trilateral meetings, representatives from the United States of America, and Baltic and Nordic countries will discuss preparation for the NATO Summit in Chicago, relations with the EU’s Eastern Partnership countries, energy safety challenges rising due to the nuclear power plants that are planned to be constructed in Lithuania’s neighbourhood and the situation in North Africa and in the Middle East. Participants will also share their experience of activities in Afghanistan.At the meetings, priorities of the Lithuanian Chairmanship of e-PINE in 2012 and proposed activities will be also presented.
The e-PINE is a cooperation mechanism for Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and the U.S.A. The initiative aims to enhance the cooperation of the United States with Baltic and Nordic countries.
