On 12 March in Vilnius, Laimonas Talat-Kelpša, Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, met with Matsumoto Hisashi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The meeting focused on implementing the strategic partnership between Lithuania and Japan, the bilateral agenda in the fields of economy and security, development cooperation, and increasing support for Ukraine. 

Talat-Kelpša emphasized that Japan was Lithuania's key partner in the Indo-Pacific region, talked about Lithuania's and Japan's joint efforts to support Ukraine, and called on implementing shared projects. 

“Lithuania appreciates a strong relationship with its strategic partner and fully encourages Japan’s engagement in Lithuania, especially in the fields of defense and security, economy, education and science, as well as culture. "During its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027, Lithuania will seek to open up additional opportunities to strengthen comprehensive bilateral cooperation with Japan,” said Political Director Talat-Kelpša.
