Political Director Laimonas Talat-Kelpša participated in the NB8-U.S. political consultations in Washington

On November 12-14 in Washington, D.C., the political directors of the foreign ministries of the Enhanced Partnership in Northern Europe (EPINE) framework for cooperation held traditional consultations.

The consultations focused on the Russian aggression against Ukraine, NATO priorities, security issues in the Baltic Sea region, and the situation in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Political Director emphasized the leadership of the Nordic and Baltic countries in strengthening European defence capabilities, mobilising support for Ukraine, and increasing pressure on Russia. Talat-Kelpša also stressed the importance of a close transatlantic bond for a collective deterrence policy and called for a further expansion of scientific and technological cooperation among the EPINE countries.

The Nordic and Baltic Political Directors also visited the NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and NATO Joint Force Command (JFC) in Norfolk, where they met with the military leadership and learned about the Alliance's structural and technological innovations.

Since 2003, the EPINE has been a cooperation mechanism of the U.S. and the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries (NB8). It aims to promote dialogue among the  countries with close security interests and to build on the experience of the Nordic and Baltic states for the development of neighbouring regions.
