POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS OF THE LITHUANIAN AND MEXICAN FOREIGN MINISTRIES WERE HELD IN MEXICO CITY
On 19 September in Mexico City (Mexico) during the second bilateral political consultations of Lithuanian and Mexican Foreign Ministries, Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oskaras Jusys and Mexico’s Undersecretary of Foreign Relations Lourdes Aranda discussed important issues of bilateral relations. During the consultations, the opinions were exchanged on bilateral Lithuanian and Mexican political and economic issues, possibilities of the development of economic and cultural cooperation were discussed, as well as regional cooperation and important issues of international policy. Energy was named as an especially important topic for the two countries and potential bilateral cooperation in this area was also discussed.
Diplomats exchanged their opinions on the situation in Caucasus and relations with Russia.
During the consultations, a lot of attention was dedicated to discuss the strategic partnership between the European Union and Mexico, the reform of the United Nations Security Council, also to the problem of climate change. Mexico is one out of few large states in the world, the position of which on the climate change and the necessity to undertake more serious obligations is close to that of the EU.
Undersecretary of the Ministry O.Jusys invited Mexican representatives to the events of the Millennium of Lithuania’s name and Vilnius – The European Capital of Culture 2009.
In Mexico City, O.Jusys also bade farewell with Lithuanian Honorary Consul in Mexico Dominique Verut, who has ended his tenure.
Political consultations of Lithuanian and Mexican Foreign Ministries are organised in compliance with the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding, which was signed on 29 June 2000 by both Ministries.
