On 17 September in Budapest, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius took part in political consultations, during which he met with Deputy State Secretaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Gergely Prőhle and Péter Sztáray.
At the bilateral consultations, the parties focused on the cooperation in 2011, when in the first half of the year, Hungary will assume the Presidency of the European Union, and in the second, Poland will take over the presidency, while Lithuania will chair the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Vice-Minister E.Ignatavičius stressed the need to employ all the circumstances in order to achieve common goals in the EU and its neighbourhood. According to the Vice-Minister, it is important to start coordinating the possibilities of co-operation between EU and the OSCE already now.
Regional cooperation initiatives, such as perspectives of cooperation between Visegrad Group countries and the Baltic States, were also discussed during the meetings.
Possibilities for a more active cooperation and implementation of common projects in the EU's Eastern Partnership countries and Western Balkans were also talked over at the consultations. The parties exchanged their views concerning energy security, transatlantic relations and security policy issues.
