POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND CANADA IS DISCUSSED
On 15 January, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas met with Canada’s Minister of National Defence Peter Gordon MacKay, who is paying a visit to Vilnius. The Ministers were glad that the political and economic cooperation between the countries was deepening, they discussed the situation in Afghanistan, where forces of both countries were carrying out their activities in one region and the agenda of the upcoming NATO’s 60th anniversary Summit in April.
Minister V.Ušackas presented priorities of the Lithuanian foreign policy and the important issues of the European Neighbourhood in the East, and those of the relations with Russia.
Head of Lithuanian diplomacy invited Canada to contribute to the air police mission in the Baltic States and to support Lithuania’s goals, so that the NATO’s air police mission would be extended at least until 2018.
