PERSPECTIVES OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF LITHUANIAN AND SOUTH AFRICAN TRADE AND CULTURE RELATIONS WERE DISCUSSED DURING BILATERAL CONSULTATIONS

During bilateral consultations between Lithuania and South Africa in Cape Town and Pretoria (South Africa) Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oskaras Jusys discussed perspectives of the development of bilateral economic, trade and culture relations.

On 15–18 June during the meetings with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Africa Susan van der Merwe and chairperson of the Subcommittee on International Affairs of the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa Fatima Hajais issues of specific features of activities in the region and international organisations, cooperation between the European Union and South Africa,, interparliamentary cooperation and joint projects of support and development in the continent of  Africa were also discussed.

The head of Lithuanian delegation O.Jusys suggested to South Africa to exchange visits of high-ranking officials and business missions.

During the meeting with Deputy Director-General in the South African Department of Trade and Industry Xavier Carim, it was agreed to carry out analytical research according to the economy sectors in both countries and determine potential areas of export and import, encourage the visits of businessmen.

Lithuania and South Africa established diplomatic relations in 1991.

At present the embassy of Lithuania in Israel is accredited to the Republic of South Africa. Consulates headed by Honorary Consuls are established in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town.
