Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the International Organizations in Vienna presented his letter of credence to the Secretary General of OSCE
Today, September 6, 2021, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the International Organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Mr Vaidotas Verba, presented his letter of credence to the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Ms Helga Schmid.
During the meeting with OSCE Secretary General, Ambassador Vaidotas Verba expressed Lithuania’s firm support to the efforts by OSCE to ensure security of the OSCE region, which is firmly linked to the readiness of OSCE participating states to respect and implement their OSCE commitments in politico-military, economic-environmental and human dimensions. Ambassador Vaidotas Verba invited Secretary General to visit Lithuania, which is also marking 30 years since joining OSCE this year.
Major attention during the meeting was dedicated to the resolution of Russia-Ukraine, Russia-Georgia and other conflicts in OSCE area, repressions against democratic opposition, civil society and independent media in Russia and Belarus, that continue, regretfully, to further increase, as well as the attempts by A. Lukashenka regime to instrumentalize irregular migration and to use it as a hybrid weapon against Lithuania and other EU Member States.
Ambassador Vaidotas Verba has been appointed as Lithuania’s Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna since August 23, 2021. Before this appointment, he served as Foreign Policy Adviser to the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament (2018-2021), OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine (2014-2014), as well as Ambassador at Large at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chief Co-ordinator for the organization of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November 2013 (2012-2014). In 2007-2012, he also served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Netherlands, as well as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to the Organization for the Prohibition of the Chemical Weapons. In 2009, Ambassador Vaidotas Verba was elected as the Chairperson of the Annual Conference of the State Parties of the OPCW.
