OSCE MEDITERRANEAN CONFERENCE BEGINS IN MALTA
During the Mediterranean Conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on 14-15 October in Malta, Lithuania’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE Ambassador Renatas Norkus will present guidelines for the future cooperation between the OSCE and the Mediterranean partners.
Ambassador R.Norkus is the Chair of the OSCE Mediterranean Partners Contact Group.The Conference will focus on discussions regarding the confidence and security building measures, development of cooperation in the fields of environmental protection and migration, strengthening tolerance and non-discrimination. One of the main topics for a discussion is the expansion of partnership.
Continuation of the OSCE activities in the region and implementation of specific projects, promotion of the OSCE values and commitments in partner countries and broader involvement of partners in the OSCE activities are at the center of Lithuania’s attention.
Representatives from the OSCE participating states, partner countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia), non-governmental organizations and the Palestinian National Authority attend the conference.
In 2010, as an upcoming chairmanship of the OSCE, Lithuania heads the OSCE Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation format. As the chair of this group, Lithuania is in charge of holding this conference.
