OSCE CHAIRPERSON TO ADDRESS UN SECURITY COUNCIL AND MEET SENIOR US OFFICIALS

VILNIUS, 10 February 2011 – The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis, will outline the goals of the Lithuanian OSCE Chairmanship to the UN Security Council and meet with senior US officials during his trip to the United States on 14-17 February.

On Tuesday, 15 February, at 10:00, Minister Ažubalis will address the UN Security Council in New York. He will give statements to the media after the Security Council meeting.

On Wednesday, 16 February, Ažubalis will travel to Washington D.C. for meetings with the US administration officials and members of the US Congress. He plans to meet with the Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, Chair of House Foreign Affairs Committee Iliana Ros-Leithenen and other members of the US foreign affairs committee.

At 15:30, Ažubalis will attend the hearings at the US Helsinki Commission, Formally known as the Commission on Security and Co-operation in Europe. The event will take place in 562 Dirksen Senate Office Building and is open to the media.

He will conclude his visit on 17 February meeting with Sen.Benjamin L.Cardin, former Chairman of the Congressional Helsinki Commission and a discussion at The Atlantic Council.
