OSCE CHAIRPERSON-IN-OFFICE AND ODIHR DIRECTOR DISCUSSED HUMAN RIGHTS AGENDA FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THIS YEAR
On 13 July in Vilnius, Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis met with Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Janez Lenarčič, who is paying a visit to Vilnius, and discussed with him key issues on the OSCE human rights agenda for the second half of 2011.
A.Ažubalis and J.Lenarčičius discussed preparations for the meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council will be held on 6-7 December in Vilnius. The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and ODIHR Director discussed the human rights situation in Belarus.A.Ažubalis noted that the reopening of the OSCE Office in Belarus remained his long-term objective. J.Lenarčič acquainted A.Ažubalis with the preparation of the ODIHR to monitor the upcoming elections in Kyrgyzstan, Russia and other OSCE countries.
On 13-14 July in Vilnius, the ODIHR Director is participating in the ongoing Conference for National Human Rights Institutions in Vilnius, which was organized by the Lithuanian Chairmanship of the OSCE and the ODIHR.
On 30 May, foreign ministers from the 56 OSCE participating States unanimously agreed to appoint the chief of the OSCE ODIHR, Ambassador J.Lenarčič for a term of three years.
