OSCE CHAIRMAN AND SECRETARY GENERAL MEET TO DISCUSS THE PREPARATION FOR THE MINISTERIAL COUNCIL IN VILNIUS
Vilnius, 19 September 2011. The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis and the OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier met on 19 September in Vilnius to discuss developments in the OSCE space and priorities of the OSCE Ministerial Council to be held on 6-7 December in Vilnius.
The OSCE Ministerial Council in Vilnius will be the first high-level meeting of the 56 OSCE member countries after the OSCE Summit in Astana last December.“We hope that the OSCE Ministerial Council in Vilnius will preserve the spirit of the Summit in Astana and will encourage the creation of a free, democratic, common, undivided Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian security community. Important security challenges, starting with unresolved conflicts and terrorism and ending with cyber-security issues and developments in North Africa and in the Middle East, are raising concerns to all of our countries. The OSCE can provide a unique set of measures that can be taken in order to address these challenges, while the OSCE Ministerial Council in Vilnius offers crucial opportunity to turn the vision into reality,” said A.Ažubalis.
