OPPORTUNITIES TO ADVANCE LITHUANIA-KAZAKHSTAN BILATERAL RELATIONS DISCUSSED IN VILNIUS
On 5 December in Vilnius, Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan held political consultations to discuss opportunities to advance bilateral relations.
At the meeting, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius and Kazakh Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexey Volkov discussed the inter-institutional cooperation of the two countries and the possibility to use the container train Saulė for carrying ISAF’s cargo from Afghanistan. The Kazakh Deputy Minister presented Kazakhstan’s preparation for the Expo 2017 International Exhibition in Astana and invited Lithuania to participate in it actively.
Kazakhstan’s delegation was acquainted with possibilities to benefit from Lithuanian skills and expertise in the areas of customs and border protection, railway, civil aviation, and logistics.
The intensifying bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, education and medicine was also discussed.
Ignatavičius acquainted the guests with Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2013.
The Lithuanian Vice-Minister and the Kazakh Deputy Minister also discussed relations between Kazakhstan and the European Union. Ignatavičius positively evaluated the progress in the implementation of the EU Strategy for Central Asia and stressed that Lithuania’s Presidency would support further advancement of the EU relations with the Central Asian countries.
